Pilot Mountain woman spreads hope and optimism one cup at a time

PILOT MOUNTAIN, NC (WGHP) – A barista is an expert at helping people start their day and when she needed her own pick-me-up, she decided it was time to focus on her dreams.

Jenna Keener enjoys the perks of owning a mobile espresso bar and bakery.

“Meeting everyone is amazing,” she said.

If there’s one thing she knows best, it’s how to start someone’s day with a great cup of joe.

“It’s the most constant thing for me: coffee. I’ve been doing this for 8 years, ”Keener said.

His years of working in other places have given him the experience of opening The house of songbirds in August 2020.

She’ll be the first to tell you that having her own business hasn’t been easy. Keener lost her job at a local cafe right after she had her son.

“Which was a lot to deal with. I was just a new single mom, and six months later I found out I had thyroid cancer, ”she said.

Between the operation and the attempt to find her way back, she felt like she was running out of steam.

“I was just at the lowest point of my life at that point. I lost my independence. I was back with my parents. My pride in the work I had done was taken away from me. she said.

Her family gave her the blow she needed.

“My parents literally came home with that one day and it was like, ‘Okay, we’re investing in you,’ Keener said.

Since then, Keener has served a daily dose of persistence.

“It absolutely pushed me to find my creativity and find my voice,” she said.

Keener is a year without cancer.
