Parker Responds to DNA Claims

PRESS RELEASE – “I have given you space for your delusions and public agitations, now is the time to put an end to this madness.” This is Malaka Parker’s comment, in response to recent DNA remarks and press releases over the past few days regarding his resignation as
President of DNA.
‘Let me be clear,’ she said, ‘Malaka Parker was not hired by, or colluded with, and I am in no way party to any conspiracy of any kind whether with the UPP, its leaders or one of its members. I have never had any discussions, not even one, with anyone within the UPP regarding the formal renewal of my membership in the party regarding this issue.
Nor have I been engaged in secret talks, secret meetings, or discussions with the UPP about the dysfunction that has come to characterize the party for which I risked my political life. I would be too ashamed, too confused and too humiliated to share the stories of
what DNA really is, aside from its polished exterior and social media branding.
The former president went on to say that “in all my political life, I have never knowingly lied to the public, so let me be categorical: my primary reasons for leaving DNA are set out in my letter to the party. The public must know that it is simply by convenience, cowardice and connivance that the DNA manufactures my reasons for me. But I recognize the incredible paranoia, bitterness and vengeful cancer that parts of the DNA leadership have been suffering from for some time.
Parker said that for the past few weeks and to a lesser extent the past three months, she has sat quietly while some DNA executives made a diabolical effort to discredit her and to erase or undermine her work and her contribution to DNA because she refused
to follow personal vendettas while ignoring the real work needed to build a strong party to truly usher in the new style of leadership they have embraced. So let me be clear, she further said, “I left DNA because I will not follow blindly when there are serious questions that the people of this country need answered. They need solutions and politics requires impartial analysis and strategic action. Nation building cannot be fueled by personal issues. We cannot build by repeating the same leadership mistakes.”
The former president said: “By the way, I hope the country finds humor in the irony inflicted on me. Because now Massiah is throwing at me the same accusations that the UPP accused her of. That his break with the UPP was due to a secret
alliance it had formed with the ABLP. That she was paid to break the UPP.
That she was bitter at her overwhelming rejection by the UPP party leadership and base. These are allegations against which I vehemently defended her. Even protecting it from the ADN candidates who ran on the party list in the last election and who desperately tried to convince me when I returned from my studies.
But the speed and conviction with which she now accuses me of the same thing got me wondering. After all, we know that evil thinks as evil does.
Parker ended by stating that she had challenged Massiah and any other DNA members to produce the evidence to support their charges.
“At least the UPP claimed they had the contracts and proof of the many secret contacts between Massiah and the Labor Party.
agents to back up their claims. I am confident that she cannot produce such evidence to support the claims she is making now,” Parker said.
Furthermore, I also challenge any member of the UPP to produce such evidence. So I warn the men and women of my country and
especially young and impressionable candidates now in the DNA to think for themselves.
Parker concluded by stating that as an educated, experienced and capable young Antiguan and Barbudan woman, she is free to associate with any political party, when and if she chooses.
