Baruch President S. David Wu named one of “50 Outstanding Asian Americans in Business”

Baruch College President S. David Wu, PhD, has been named one of “50 Outstanding Asian Americans in Business” by the Asian American Business Development Center, an organization that promotes greater recognition of contributions from Asian businesses to the economy in general.
Dr Wu was honored at the organization’s annual gala on September 15 –– the only event of its kind to recognize the outstanding achievements of Asian-born leaders and entrepreneurs in a wide range of industries –– alongside his colleagues Laureates, which this year include: Elizabeth Varghese, Global Leader – Talent and HR Transformation Strategy at IBM; Jim Lee, Senior Vice President at PepsiCo, and Anu Aiyengar, Managing Director and Global Co-Head of Mergers & Acquisitions at JP Morgan.
The award aims to recognize “a microcosm of top Asian-born entrepreneurs, professionals and business leaders who are engaged in a wide range of business interests and who all have a role to play in driving the US economy.” .
This year, Dr Wu was the only laureate representing the education sector among other laureates which included executives from AIG, Bank of America, Citi, Coca Cola, Colgate-Palmolive Company, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Pfizer , Ralph Lauren Corp. , Target and other large global and national companies and organizations.
The keynote speaker was Anne Chow, CEO of AT&T Business, the first woman to hold this position and the first woman of color to be CEO in AT&T history. Entrepreneur Andrew Yang, who was a prominent candidate in the 2020 presidential primaries and the 2021 New York mayoral race, also spoke at the event, which drew more than 600 attendees.
A leader in higher education
This national recognition of Dr. Wu’s contributions and achievements follows the multiple honors and recognitions he has received for his work as head of Baruch College since taking office in July 2020.
He was named to City & State’s Power of Diversity: Asian 100 list for the second year in a row. City & State, New York’s premier media company covering politics, also named Dr Wu to its annual “Higher Education Power 100” list, in addition to being recognized by CollegeCliffs as “Top 50 US College and University President” in 2020.
Dr. Wu’s track record of bold and visionary academic leadership and industry expertise has enabled him to lead Baruch at the forefront of higher education, forging new strategic partnerships and creating innovative ways to produce the talent needed for today’s innovation economy.
