Amex offers many great cards for earning Membership Rewards points. While there’s no “one size fits all” best card for earning Amex points, I can tell you with certainty that the Amex Business Green Rewards Card is particularly unrewarding. I wanted to take a closer look at the card in this post and explain why I generally wouldn’t recommend it.

Amex Corporate Green Card Basics for January 2022

I’m sure at one time the Amex Business Green Rewards Card was competitive, but that’s not the case anymore. So let’s go over the details of the card, ranging from the welcome bonus to the annual fee to the rewards structure.

Amex Corporate Green Card Welcome Bonus

The Amex Business Green Card offers a welcome bonus of 25,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $3,000 in the first three months. Personally, I value Amex points at 1.7 cents each, so for me, this bonus is worth $425, which isn’t bad, but also nothing exciting.

General Amex application rules apply, although it is useful to know that this is a hybrid card and not a credit card, so this card does not count towards the limit of five Amex credit cards.

Annual Amex Corporate Green Card Fee

The Amex Business Green Card has an introductory annual fee of $0 for the first year, then $95 per year thereafter. Adding authorized users to the map is free.

Amex Corporate Green Card Rewards Structure

The Amex Business Green Card has a fairly simple rewards structure, as you can earn:

  • 2x Membership Rewards points per dollar spent with amextravel.com
  • 1x Membership Rewards points on all other purchases

A few additional points to note:

  • The card has a 2.7% foreign transaction fee, so I wouldn’t recommend making foreign currency purchases with the card
  • The card doesn’t have a preset spending limit, so it could be a useful option when making big purchases
  • Amex membership rewards can be transferred to airline and hotel partners, so there are many ways to use these rewards

So many cards offer great return on daily spending or valuable bonus categories, so the reward structure on this card is pretty lackluster.

Is the Amex Business Green Card worth it?

I really find it hard to get excited about the Amex Business Green Rewards Card, given that the card essentially offers 1x points on the vast majority of purchases. I would say the card would be fine if it didn’t have an annual fee, but it does have an annual fee after the first year.

Therefore, I find it difficult to understand the value proposition of the card, especially compared to other cards. Let me share some of the cards that I would consider in place of the Amex Business green card.

Why should you get the Amex Blue Business Plus instead

If you’re looking for a reasonably priced Amex card that earns Membership Rewards points, consider the Blue Business® Plus credit card from American Express (test) instead:

  • The card offers 2x Membership Rewards points on the first $50,000 spent each calendar year (1x points thereafter)
  • The card has no annual fee (Rates and Fees)

There is simply no competition between the two cards. Why would you get a card with an annual fee less rewarding than a card with no annual fee?

Chase Ink’s favorite company is a better option

When it comes to $95 annual fee business cards, you really can’t compete with the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card (review). This incredible card offers a huge welcome bonus of 100,000 Ultimate Rewards points after spending $15,000 in three months.

The card also offers 3x points on the first $150,000 spent in combined purchases each cardholder year in the following categories:

  • To travel
  • Shipping purchases
  • Internet, cable and telephone services
  • Advertising purchases made on social media sites and search engines

You can also top this up with the other no-annual-fee cards that earn Chase Ultimate Rewards points. On top of that, the card offers valuable benefits like rental car coverage and cell phone protection.

Conclusion

The Amex Business Green Rewards Card is one of Amex’s business cards that earns Membership Rewards points. The card has a decent welcome bonus and an annual fee which is waived in the first year, although otherwise the card doesn’t have much redeeming quality as there are better options.
